Lesson 6 of 14 · Part 6 of 6
Five questions on the growth play. Pick an answer to see why it is right or wrong.
Right. The zero floor stops a negative index credit. Rider charges, withdrawals, surrender charges and an MVA can still reduce what the client gets.
Not quite. Not true. "You cannot lose money" blurs index credit, account value and cash surrender value. They are three different things.
Not quite. The index does not fall into the account. In a down year the index credit is zero, not a loss.
Read again: Read the index card, and say it in plain words
Not quite. Caps and participation rates can change at each renewal date. Showing them as fixed misleads the client.
Right. Account Rate History in Annuity info shows past changes: one account's participation fell from 110% to 105%. The carrier states the contract's limits.
Not quite. Never present a strategy only by its best back-tested years. Show its live record and its fee next to it.
Read again: Will the rate hold? Read the Account Rate History
Not quite. The date belongs to the index, not the product. A product can use an index that launched long before it.
Not quite. Index Tracker shows the index only. Caps and participation rates are not applied there.
Right. Back-tested means worked out afterward from past data. It is not interest any client earned.
Read again: Check the index has a real history
Right. Same rate and same $53,591 of earnings can hide different access to the money. Read it before you pick.
Not quite. Not so. Withdrawal says None on one row and 5% on the other. Access to the money differs.
Not quite. List order is not fit. The top rows can be Advisory, and a commission agent skips those.
Read again: A fixed rate for a set term: the MYGA
Not quite. Without the agency, "A-rated" means little. A- is the fourth step in A.M. Best's secure range, not almost the top.
Right. Other agencies use other scales, so never drop the agency name. Ratings change, so check again before every sale.
Not quite. Guaranty associations are not federal deposit insurance. They are a backstop with limits that vary by state, and many states bar using them to sell.
Read again: Check the insurer first, then answer "what if it fails?"
