Check the index has a real history

Many indexes are new. Their long track record is worked out backward, not lived. Index Tracker shows the difference.

Do it in Genius

Index tracker INCEPTION Live index data only

Practice Client, 3 Nov 2026: Live data only. An index launched 11/07/2025 shows 20.73% this year, 28.23% since launch, no 10-year figure.

Rates change every day, so yours will differ.

Open Index tracker in Genius (opens the app in a new tab)

In the app: Calculators → Index tracker

Index Tracker with Live index data only ticked: the indices with their returns, and the launch date under Inception. (opens full size in a new tab)
  1. 1.

Find the client's hot index and the S&P 500 in the same columns. Compare their Inception dates and 10 years returns.

    Back-tested
Worked out afterward from past data. Not interest any client earned.

An FIA is not the index: a down year credits zero, but a cap or participation limits the gain.

  2. 2.

Tick Live index data only. Years before the launch turn into dashes.

That index keeps only 20.73% this year and 28.23% since launch. Older indexes keep more years.

  3. 3.

In Performance analyzer, set Account fees to its no-fee choice. Then set Index inception to Live only (10+ yrs).

With the no-fee choice the list shows 4477 accounts. Without Live only (10+ yrs), a young index can still top the 10-year column.

Performance analyzer with the no-fee choice set. The list shows returns over 10, 15 and 20 years. (opens full size in a new tab)
  4. 4.

Choose the strategy at Allocations in Annuity illustrator. Keep it simple: yearly reset, point to point, no averaging, a large index.

    Point to point
The index is compared only at the start and at the end of the crediting period.

A 2-year strategy still led the no-fee list. Use the Reset periods and Averaging types filters to remove it.

You're done when you can say which index in your product has the longest live record.
Watch out: Index Tracker shows the index, not what the client earns. Caps and participation rates are not applied here. A no-fee account has no separate account fee, not no cost. Still check the cap, participation rate, spread, surrender terms and MVA. Illustrator High and Low periods are back-tested too. Questions about buying the index itself go to a registered representative.
